— the Rhacodactylus leachianus source

Welcome to!

This site is dedicated to the world's largest extant gecko — the New Caledonian Giant Gecko Rhacodactylus leachianus Cuvier, 1829. This species was and still is, not only due to its sheer size, of special interest for both the scientific community and hobbyists all over the world.

The site aims to deliver information about the giant gecko and some of its relatives, without claiming completeness or trying to serve as a care-sheet. Instead, the site shall work as a starting point and direct the reader to continuative literature and sources.

However, my work on this site heavily suffers from the Ph.D. thesis that I am currently writing. None the less, I decided to finally launch the site without the content being ready and subsequently add new sections, pictures, links, literature etc. I hope that you will, every now and then, find time to check out this site.
